Prevention and Recovery Services was
incorporated in 1965 under the name of the National Council on
Alcoholism, Topeka Division. In July of 1993, the Board of Directors
voted to change our name to Shawnee Regional Prevention and Recovery
Services. Our new name is more descriptive of our mission
[shortened to Prevention and Recovery Services (PARS) for easier
recognition].
PARS continues to serve Shawnee County as
one of the thirteen Regional Prevention Centers in the state whose
mission is to work with our community to reduce risk factors and
strengthen protective factors that influence alcohol and drug abuse.
Our Mission
To enhance community wellness by providing prevention, intervention,
education, counseling and referrals; and to assist in developing
partnerships that empower individuals and communities to increase
protective factors and reduce risk factors related to substance abuse
and other unhealthy behaviors.
Our Vision
PARS is committed to helping make our community a place where people of all ages are safe,
connected with others, and supported by a network of concerned citizens
who share the responsibility for nurturing educating and creating an
environment for all people to be free from the effects of alcohol,
tobacco and other drugs.
